‘Who is she and what is she to you?’.
Roberta Flack’s song ‘Compared to what’ came on this morning. Not only is it one of the coolest songs ever, it’s much deeper than it seems, about the double standards in society (that took me an embarrassingly long time to work out).
That line got me thinking.
About the relationships between.
Each of us.
How deep is it? How far will it go?
Who is important? Why is it important?
But also what lies between?
If we treat each relationship as a thing on its own.
As a separate entity between us: What does it look like? What does it feel like? Is it healthy, is it growing? Is it happy, is it content? Flourishing or a bit neglected?
Between you and your mother, father, brother, sister, partner.
You and a friend.
You and yourself.
What happens if you push it beyond the individual?
Between you and work.
You and the past.
You and your future.
Would it change how you felt? Would it change how you acted?
