The power of the fulcrum, of looking for the meta.
It’s been one of those things that has changed a great deal about how I think and what I do.
The search for points of maximum leverage.
In the moment, there and then, choosing the right things.
Across time, those things that ripple out.
Together, those ideas and actions, that naturally compound.
In strategy: What is the fulcrum here? Where if this unlocks, so many other things unlock.
In life: What is the meta thing? Where, if this is done, other things get better, others things get easier, other issues are removed.
They can be skills: writing is one of those for me, a muscle I actively try and build build wherever I can.
(this is also rather meta: it’s one of the reasons I began writing more regular posts).
They can be mindsets: I try and develop what I call ‘Frame-sets’ where I look for frameworks that can help me and others navigate complex things, these are also more often than not relevant in a number of ‘domains’ from innovation strategy through to life strategy in coaching.
They can be actions: there are certain exercises, rituals, that if I do them, make everything else much more doable, better.
They can be individual, just for you.
They can be collective, in a team.
They can be in the organisation: reinforcing activities where everyone wins (think Porter's Reinforcing activity systems or Rumelt's Central Challenge, a Crux).
They aren’t always easy to find, but my god they are worth finding.
