It’s funny how the world works. How things align.
I had been exploring the idea of ‘Numinosity’, writing a piece about that feeling of awe and reverence most of us feel somewhere, sometime.
And the Philosopher Pranay Sanklecha creates a new series of talks about that very notion, about ‘magical things’ in our lives.
I hadn’t thought about it like that before, it’s a beautiful idea, a perfect reframing of what it feels like.
For me those magical moments usually comes in three shades, from the more frequent to the very rare:
Music - something about a particular chord, a phrase, a lyric that catches me, there is a moment of recognition, an ‘Oh’, usually a smile and then goosebumps. It is joy.

Art - occasionally in the making, I’ll look at what I have made and have no real idea of where it came from, or how I did it exactly. It’s as strange as it is lovely.
A place, a person and my place in the world - a feeling of deep, profound gratefulness for a particular place, a person and where I am in my life right there, right then. It builds, I can feel I am on the edge of it, and then suddenly it is there. It is overwhelming, it is wonderful. These are very rare, unpredictable, I can remember each one. I hold them close.
All three have something in common.
They feel magical, but really they are the opposite of magical.
Because I feel closer to who I really am. It’s like all the other stuff is stripped away and there I am.
It’s like a mirror and I am looking at the real me.
Find your magic, then find yourself.
